The Temple of Castor and Pollux

The Temple of Castor and Pollux was originally built (probably in 484 BC) after the battle of Lake Regilus (499 BC). Before the battle the Roman dictator Postumius vowed to build a temple to them if Rome was victorious.
According to legend, Castor and Pollux, the twin sons of Jupiter, appeared on the battlefield in aid of the Romans. And - after the battle had been won they again appeared on the Forum in Rome announcing the victory. The temple stands on the supposed spot of their appearance.
The temple was destroyed and rebuilt several times, the last building being erected in 6 BC by Tiberius (before he became emperor).
