Area Sacra

area-sacra-01.jpg - 31972 Bytes

Two of the temples in the so called 'Area Sacra', the remains of the group of small buildings which once adjoined the portico that was part of Pompey's theatre complex. In the immediate neighbourhood of these temples, also adjoining the portico of Pompey's Theatre, was the 'Curia of Pompey', the building which acted as a temporary assembly for the senate while the proper curia was being repaired as Caesar was murdered. It was hence very close to these ruins that Julius Caesar was stabbed to death.
